Al-Dhahabi Writes His Own Biography
Transcript 20 lines
Al-Dhahabi writes his own biography.
Al-Dhahabi, who had many, many books on biography, scholarship, and so on.
In al-Mu'jam al-Mukhtass, al-Dhahabi, the compiler, wrote this.
"Muhammad ibn Ahmad ibn Uthman, ibn Qaymaz, son of Shaykh Abdullah."
"Al-Turkumani al-Fariqi. Then al-Dimashqi al-Shafi'i."
"A Qur'an reciter."
"A hadith scholar and compiler of this dictionary."
"He was born in 673 AH and authored works."
See how people whose greatness gives you chills talk about themselves.
He only says, "He authored works," which were said to be beneficial.
Others kindly praise him.
He knew himself best and his failings in knowledge and deeds.
Allah's help is sought. There is no strength except through Him.
If my faith stays safe, what joy for me!
What matters is faith, not authorship or years writing more than 150 tomes.
In the end, he says, "If my faith stays safe, what joy for me!"
This is the reality of religion, faith, righteousness, and sincere intention.
A person must guard his faith.
All these are ways to strengthen faith.
But it's faith that matters: if my faith stays safe, what joy for me!
