AI Between Blessing and Curse — Masjid Quba Khutbah
Transcript 156 lines
All praise is for Allah ﷻ, our Most Generous Lord, who taught by the pen.
He taught man what he did not know.
I testify that there is no god but Allah ﷻ alone. He has no partner.
A testimony: whoever says it sincerely from the heart is honored.
I testify that our master Muhammad ﷺ is His slave and Messenger, best of prophets.
His nation is the best of nations. May Allah bless him and his family.
May Allah be pleased with his Companions.
Whoever follows them well will be safe and prosper.
Now then, O servants of Allah ﷻ.
Fear Allah ﷻ as He should be feared.
Prepare for the Hereafter; the best provision is taqwa.
Know death's nearer than your sandal strap;
prepare, and ask Allah ﷻ pardon and health.
Do not be deceived by this worldly life, nor let Satan deceive you about Allah ﷻ.
O servants of Allah ﷻ.
Indeed, Allah ﷻ created mankind to worship Him alone.
As Allah ﷻ says, "I created jinn and humans only to worship Me."
And He nurtured them with blessings.
The favors of Allah ﷻ for people are ever new and renewed.
No limit can contain them, and no count can exhaust them.
If you counted the blessings Allah ﷻ gives, you could never number them.
O servants of Allah ﷻ.
Every blessing we enjoy comes only from our Lord Most High.
Whatever blessing you have is from Allah ﷻ.
One of the greatest blessings of Allah ﷻ to us.
He brought us out of our mothers' wombs, knowing nothing.
But He did not leave us ignorant.
Rather, He taught us and made easy for us the means of beneficial knowledge.
So He sent us Muhammad ibn Abdullah ﷺ, His noblest creation and finest messenger.
He taught us the Book and wisdom, purified us, and led us to His right path.
He made clear that true honor and fear lie only in knowledge joined with faith.
Allah SWT raises those of you who believe, and those given knowledge, in rank.
Only those of His servants who have knowledge fear Allah SWT.
The best, highest, purest, and sweetest knowledge is from Muhammad ibn Abdullah ﷺ.
Useful worldly knowledge is also praised in the Sharia.
It is built on experiments, research, and studies.
A skilled doctor and a proficient engineer both have knowledge praised in the Sharia.
Anyone in a profession working with knowledge is commendable in Islamic law.
And among the blessings of Allah ﷻ to us is beneficial knowledge.
Among them are the mobile phones of today and other pocket communication devices.
They bring faraway things near and do people much good if used well.
Be thankful for this blessing by using it in obeying Allah ﷻ and only as He permits.
Avoid using it for what Allah ﷻ has forbidden.
O servant of Allah ﷻ, holding your phone, look through it carefully.
Measure what you look at on it against yourself.
Is it vile or wholesome? Measure it against yourself.
Do you think that on Judgment Day, its use will go with your good deeds?
Will it instead be placed on the scale of bad deeds?
You are your own witness against yourself.
Servants of Allah ﷻ. Servants of Allah ﷻ.
For these blessings, we must thank Allah ﷻ and use them as He approves or permits.
Fear Allah ﷻ, O servants of Allah ﷻ. Thank Him for His blessings and prosper.
I say what you hear.
So seek His forgiveness. He is the All-Forgiving, Most Merciful.
I seek forgiveness from Almighty Allah ﷻ for me and you from every sin.
Praise be to Allah ﷻ alone, and prayers and peace on the last Prophet.
Now then, O servants of Allah ﷻ.
Among the great blessings of our time is what is called artificial intelligence.
It is developing at a stunning speed and offers much good to humanity.
If you use it properly.
In this regard, I warn against three matters related to AI.
First is using it to seek fatwas.
Some people now use AI to learn rulings on cases they face.
I even read one of them say this.
"We no longer need scholars."
"One click tells us the ruling on an issue."
This is not permissible, servants of Allah ﷻ.
It is also a cause of misguidance.
AI is an indiscriminate collector, gathering answers from websites.
It may cite an unreliable site, or falsely quote a scholar.
A fatwa, servants of Allah ﷻ, concerns specific cases.
Those cases have contexts that may change the ruling.
So fear Allah ﷻ, servants of Allah ﷻ.
Do not use this AI to learn rulings on the cases that befall you.
As for the second matter, I warn students not to rely on AI alone.
This concerns the material they gather to present to people.
AI gathers blindly.
Like a gatherer in the night, it collects good and evil, right and wrong.
Whoever seeks knowledge and uses it must verify, review, check, investigate.
Third, servants of Allah ﷻ: using AI to harm believers with lies and deepfakes.
This matter involves several crimes.
First crime: it is a widespread lie, major sin causing grave and Fire torment.
We seek Allah ﷻ's refuge from His torment
The second crime is that it harms believers, men and women.
It harms the slandered person, his family, his neighbors, and loved ones.
Those who harm believing men and women undeservedly bear slander and clear sin.
Third crime, servants of Allah ﷻ: lying about a believer's words and deeds.
The Prophet ﷺ said: whoever lies about a believer will be punished.
Allah will cast him into Radghat al-Khabal until he retracts it.
Radghat al-Khabal
O servants of Allah, it is a vile place in Hell.
where the pus, blood, and sweat of the people of the Fire gather.
We seek refuge in Allah ﷻ from such a plight.
Fourth crime: lying about Allah and His religion.
They falsely attribute statements.
To a trusted scholar or shaykh, they say religion requires this or that.
Even though he never said it.
Rather, they lie about Allah and His religion.
It is among the gravest sins.
Allah has forbidden it.
Fifth crime.
O servants of Allah.
This vile, atrocious act deceives believing men and women.
Whoever trusts this scholar or this shaykh may be deceived.
He may hear the clip and think the shaykh really said it.
He may think this is part of Allah's religion.
This is the gravest deceit against Muslims.
So fear Allah ﷻ
Servants of Allah.
Use Allah's blessings only for what pleases Him.
Use them to draw near to Him or for what He permits, to prosper.
O Allah, send prayers upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad.
As You sent prayers upon Ibrahim and the family of Ibrahim.
Indeed, You are Praiseworthy, Glorious.
O Allah, be pleased with all the Companions.
Be pleased with all the Companions. Be pleased with all the Companions.
O Allah, grant us love for them. Grant us love for them.
O Allah ﷻ, our Lord, we ask You to be pleased with us all.
O Allah, be pleased with us all. O Allah, be pleased with us all.
O Allah, our Lord. O Allah, our Lord.
Our people in Gaza are suffering terribly.
O Allah ﷻ, feed the hungry.
O Allah ﷻ, clothe the unclothed.
O Allah ﷻ, make the fearful safe.
O Allah ﷻ, heal the injured and the sick.
O Allah ﷻ, our Lord, grant them victory.
O Allah ﷻ, grant them victory. O Allah ﷻ, grant them victory.
O Allah ﷻ, destroy those who oppress them. O Allah ﷻ, destroy those who oppress them.
O Allah ﷻ, destroy those who oppress them. Lord of the worlds.
O Allah ﷻ, our Lord, we have men standing guard on our borders.
O Allah ﷻ, keep them safe. O Allah ﷻ, grant them happiness.
O Allah ﷻ, guide them. O Allah ﷻ, make their aim true.
O Allah ﷻ.
O Allah ﷻ, our Lord, grant them success. O Allah ﷻ, protect them.
O Allah ﷻ, return them safe and victorious, Lord of the worlds.
O Allah ﷻ, accept whoever among them dies as a martyr, Lord of the worlds.
O Allah ﷻ, bless our rulers; guide them. Set them right; draw them toward good.
Draw righteous people close to them. Support them, not those against them.
Preserve them for us, Lord of the worlds.
O Allah ﷻ, our Lord, these are Medina residents and visitors.
These men and women have gathered at Quba Mosque.
They perform a great duty of Yours. Seeking Your mercy. Fearing punishment.
O Allah ﷻ, send down Your mercy on them.
O Allah, send down Your mercy on them.
Send down calm upon them. Guard them from what they fear.
O Allah ﷻ, each of them—each of them—has a request.
O Allah ﷻ, grant him his request and give him what he loves.
Increase him from Your bounty beyond what he loves, Lord of the worlds.
O Allah ﷻ, forgive them, their parents, their families, offspring, and neighbors.
And their loved ones, and those for whom they interceded, O Lord of the worlds.
O Allah ﷻ, as You gathered them for this prayer in this city, in this mosque.
O Allah ﷻ, gather them and those they love all together in the Highest Paradise.
O Allah, deprive none of them. O Allah, deprive none of them.
Our Lord, grant us good in this world and the Hereafter, and save us from the Fire.
And Allah ﷻ is Most High and All-Knowing.
May Allah ﷻ send prayers and peace upon our Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.
