What does the Prophet ﷺ mean by saying, "Blessing is with your elders"?

0:11

Blessing is with your elders. And goodness.

0:17

Among the elders. And the elders are two types.

0:20

Elders in knowledge because of their knowledge of the Book and Sunnah.

0:29

Even if they are young in age.

0:33

Blessing is with them.

0:36

So wherever you find a scholar of the Book and the Sunnah.

0:41

He teaches the Qur'an and the Sunnah and teaches the way of the Salaf.

0:47

the righteous Salaf (RA) Then know that he is a senior.

0:53

Then, as for these scholars, blessing is with their seniors.

1:00

Blessing is with their seniors.

1:04

So anyone

1:06

who truly calls to the Book and Sunnah.

1:09

And the sign of truthfulness is the Salaf's way. They are seniors.

1:15

Then these seniors.

1:18

They vary according to age and knowledge.

1:25

And the second type is the elders in age.

1:31

Even if they had no knowledge.

1:34

Blessing is with these people. And goodness is with them.

1:39

For even if they missed out on religious knowledge.

1:45

They did not miss the wisdom they learned from worldly life.

1:51

Therefore, brothers, the people of whims

1:56

disparage the senior scholars and the elderly.

2:03

Because they know.

2:05

that senior scholars cut off their path of doubts.

2:13

And that those advanced in age.

2:17

They guide the youth to goodness by instinct and experience.

2:24

Nowadays some elders condemn what is happening.

2:28

Rebelling against the ruler and maligning him.

2:32

Not because they have knowledge, but from the wisdom of years.

2:38

So when the people of desires knew.

2:43

that the strong barrier preventing them from seizing the youth is only the elders.

2:52

They attacked them. So they attacked the scholars.

2:55

They labeled and vilified them. They made people shun them.

3:00

And they made the young shun the elders.

3:05

They say: your father is old but he's a layman.

3:13

Stay with the youth.

3:17

Until the young man goes in to his father, showing him no regard.

3:24

His father says to him, 'My son, my son,' He thinks: poor man, he knows nothing.

3:32

Then the people of whims snatch him.

3:34

Now some youths enter their parents' home like lions.

3:42

His mom.

3:44

And his father too is seated; if he greets them both, fine.

3:50

Then he goes to his room until he leaves to meet the youths.

3:53

By Allah, this is what people of whims do.

3:57

As for Ahl al-Sunnah, they enjoin sticking with the elders.

4:03

Sticking with senior scholars.

4:07

And staying with elders, learning from their experience and honoring them.

4:12

By Allah, only a noble person honors elders; the vile disgrace them.

4:20

And blessing is with the elders.

4:23

In knowledge and in age.

4:26

So whoever wants blessing, let him keep to the senior scholars.

4:32

And let him be with the elders, respectful to them, honoring them.

4:37

knowing their worth. And Allah ﷻ is Most High, Most Knowing.
