This questioner points to a trend found in some households.
They hire maids and put cameras over them.
so they can monitor the maid during the first months. Is that allowed?
Taking pictures is haram. The Prophet ﷺ cursed image-makers.
He said they will receive the severest punishment on the Day of Resurrection.
And on the Day of Resurrection, the images they made will be gathered.
Then they will be punished with them in Hellfire.
He will be punished for each image he made—may Allah protect us.
And he will be ordered to breathe life into it.
Can anyone breathe life but Allah? It is to punish and confound them.
So picture-taking is allowed only for unavoidable necessity.
Photography beyond necessity: for art, keeping, or memories is unlawful.
The Prophet ﷺ said to his cousin, Ali ibn Abi Talib (RA).
"Do not leave any image without effacing it."
"Nor any raised grave without leveling it."
A raised grave means one that is elevated—excess regarding graves.
Level it with the graves; let it have no mark or height.
This is what the Messenger of Allah ﷺ enjoined Ali to do.
Ali narrated it to the Ummah, and it is in Sahih Muslim.
"Do not leave any image without effacing it."
He ﷺ would leave nothing in his house that contained crosses.
Meaning images of crosses; he would destroy them.
Thus he would purify his house of images, except necessary ones.
These are permitted if necessary and may be kept if necessary.
Anything else, for hobby, for memories, or for art, is not allowed.
Regarding the angels, the authentic hadith states.
“The angels do not enter a house that has a dog or images.”
If the angels do not enter your house, the devils enter it.
Certainly, if the angels do not enter it, the devils enter it.
But if the angels enter, the devils do not enter.
Because angels and devils never gather together. Yes.
