Radio of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
I welcome you and thank you very much.
The most lasting features in memory for all who saw and heard him.
were dignity and humility at once.
He, RH, had a radiant face.
His countenance was cheerful, and his insight penetrating.
The founding King RH said of him.
"If I were to place the judiciary and governance in one man's hands.
It would be Sheikh Abdullah bin Humaid."
His Eminence Sheikh Abdullah bin Muhammad bin Abdulaziz bin Humaid.
was born in one of old Riyadh's most famous quarters, Mi'kal.
in 1329 AH.
He grew up an orphan after his father died at about age two.
He then lived in his mother's care for a few years.
Soon after, the boy lost his sight because of smallpox.
His mother died before he had reached the age of six.
He memorized the primers and memorized the books.
If it was read to him once or twice, he memorized it. He had great recall.
In his student days, texts were usually read together with his classmates.
As is well known, that is how knowledge is gained in study.
Then, when he took on duties, he had a book and readers with him.
whether in the judiciary or elsewhere, they would read to him.
And when we grew older, we too would read to him.
Shaykh Abdullah bin Muhammad bin Humayd was an exceptional, unique scholar.
He served this religion and this nation.
Indeed, he served the world by highlighting the values of the true faith.
There is no doubt that Islam is a divine religion.
No equal to it has ever existed. Nor was its like sent down to any prophet.
In 1360 AH, he moved from Riyadh to the city of al-Majma'ah.
where King Abdulaziz appointed him judge over the Sudair region.
Then, in 1363 AH, he was sent to serve as judge in Buraydah.
There, alongside judging, he handled ifta teaching, leading prayers, sermons.
In 1377 AH, he requested to be relieved of the judgeship.
His request was granted only after repeated appeals and insistence.
He then devoted himself to teaching.
Our late father RH had a very advanced administrative mind and outlook.
Sometimes, you may find it surprising.
that a Sharia scholar, precise in fiqh, could also excel in administration.
When King Faisal RH assumed power.
That was in 1384 AH.
He decided to establish the Presidency for al-Haram's religious oversight.
He chose Eminent Shaykh Abdullah bin Humayd to head this first-ever post.
His imprint was clear in every aspect from imamah and adhan affairs
to caring for public scholarly lessons
and guiding pilgrims and Umrah-goers.
He gave the Makkah Haram Library special attention.
He also strove to establish the Makkah Haram Institute.
which remains a beacon of knowledge and guidance.
for the Muslim world for over sixty years.
The Shaykh RH laid the foundation.
and the essential infrastructure for the Presidency of Religious Affairs.
by whose light we still walk today in the year 1446 AH.
My father's scholarly encyclopedia contains almost all his scholarly works.
It will accompany the forum, where this encyclopedia will be launched.
This forum embodies the care of the wise leadership.
for the Haramain and for firmly grounded scholars.
The Presidency of Religious Affairs at the Two Holy Mosques took the lead.
It gathered His Eminence's scholarly works.
These included fatwas, writings, lessons, and lectures.
It also included treatises, articles, documents, correspondence.
It also printed and published them in a scholarly collection.
The collection bears His Eminence's name and spans twenty-three volumes.
It totals about 9,549 pages.
What matters is the righteous deed one finds stored with Allah ﷻ.
A person leaves behind family, wealth, and clan.
He has nothing except the righteous deeds he sent ahead.
Wealth and family are but trusts. One day, the trusts must be returned.
Late in Sheikh Bin Humayd's life, his illness grew severe.
He remained patient, seeking reward.
until Allah ﷻ chose him to be by His side.
He passed away in Dhu al-Qa'dah in 1402 AH.
Eminent Sheikh Abdullah bin Humayd lived seven decades of giving.
He served Islam and the Muslims.
He devoted his life, effort, and time to pleasing Allah ﷻ.
He departed, leaving a great legacy.
and lasting deeds that remind us of our righteous forebears' legacy.
