So we must understand matters properly.

0:10

So obeying the ruler is obligatory, not for his benefit, as some think.

0:20

Rather, it is in our interest. The benefit returns to us.

0:26

The ruler only bears toil and dangers.

0:31

May Allah ﷻ help them and guide their steps.

0:37

We are the ones who rest in security.

0:40

and stability and comfort.

0:46

As for those in authority, they bear toil and hardship.

0:51

But Allah ﷻ sent them to us as a mercy for us.

0:58

So we must know this and remember it.

1:05

And this is mentioned in the creed of Ahl al-Sunnah wa'l-Jama'ah.

1:09

Among the principles of Ahl al-Sunnah wa'l-Jama'ah is obeying the Muslim ruler.

1:16

Even if he has shortcomings, even if he has violations.

1:22

And even if he has.

1:24

Something that does not reach the level of disbelief and leaving Islam.

1:30

Imam Ahmad RH was asked.

1:34

It was said to him: So-and-so is pious and upright in his religion.

1:42

But he is weak in judgment.

1:45

And another man is strong in judgment, but has weakness in uprightness.

1:52

Which of them is fit for authority? He said: The one with strong judgment.

1:58

Even if he is weak in some religious matters.

2:03

Because his weakness affects himself, and his strong judgment benefits Muslims.

2:10

This is fiqh in Allah's religion. This is fiqh in Allah's religion.

2:16

Thus, the one with sound judgment and wise statesmanship is preferred.

2:22

Even if he is not completely upright.

2:27

Provided it does not reach the point of leaving Islam.

2:30

He is preferred—preferred over others.

2:35

Because the pious one's weakness harms the Muslims.

2:40

while the sinner's sound judgment benefits the Muslims.

2:46

So this is what is considered.

2:49

That is why Muslims, through the ages, obeyed those in authority.

2:55

despite their shortcomings and the reservations about them.

3:01

They obeyed their rulers.

3:05

Because they followed the counsel of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.

3:10

In his ﷺ words. "I counsel you to fear Allah."

3:13

"And listen and obey—listen and obey— even if a slave is appointed over you."

3:19

"For whoever among you lives will see many differences."

3:23

What protects against such division?

3:26

It is adhering to the Muslim community and its Imam.

3:32

This protects against division. This brings security and stability.

3:36

Praise be to Allah.

3:38

So we must understand matters properly.
