He (RH) said:

0:02

The thirty-eighth Hadith.

0:04

On the authority of Abu Hurayrah (RA),

0:06

who said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:

0:10

“Indeed, Allah ﷻ the Exalted said:

0:12

‘Whoever shows enmity to a Wali of Mine, I declare war against him.

0:15

And My servant draws not near to Me with anything more beloved to Me than what I have obligated on him.

0:20

And My servant continues to draw near to Me with supererogatory deeds until I love him.

0:24

And when I love him, I am his hearing with which he hears, and his sight with which he sees,

0:30

and his hand with which he strikes,

0:33

and his foot with which he walks.

0:35

Were he to ask of Me, I would give to him; and were he to seek refuge in Me, I would grant it.'

0:39

Narrated by al-Bukhari.

0:41

Yes, this Hadith...

0:43

regarding...

0:46

whoever shows enmity to a Wali of Allah ﷻ — and Wali here means the believers.

0:50

For all believers are Awliya of Allah ﷻ.

0:54

However, Wilayah has degrees, just as faith has degrees, and piety has degrees.

0:58

So people are in degrees.

1:00

Therefore, the lowest of believers is one who performs acts of obedience,

1:03

as we have seen in the Hadith of Ibn Abbas and others.

1:06

This Hadith points to two matters.

1:07

The first is the prescription of seeking love and closeness to Him,

1:10

Glorified and Exalted, through voluntary deeds.

1:11

for the greatest cause of Allah's ﷻ love is performing voluntary deeds.

1:16

Secondly, this hadith is a foundation

1:19

of the foundations of Ahl al-Sunnah in affirming the active attributes of Allah ﷻ.

1:25

For some people deny the active attributes and say they are not affirmed for Him ﷻ, and this is incorrect.

1:31

And whoever attributes this to any of the Imams of the Salaf and the scholars of Hadith is mistaken about them,

1:39

attributing to them what they did not say.

1:41

That is because some attribute this to Ahmad,

1:44

and this is an error.

1:44

Rather, it was taken from al-Baqillani in his books.

1:48

For some of al-Baqillani's companions among Ahmad's followers transmitted a statement they understood from him and attributed it to Ahmad,

1:53

while al-Baqillani took it from Ibn Kullab and others.

1:56

The point is that the active attributes of Him, Glorified and Exalted is He,

2:01

especially the voluntary ones, are established in the Book and the Sunnah, including love.

2:06

“And My servant continues to draw near to Me with voluntary deeds until I love him,” so it is active.

2:12

'When I love him, I become his hearing with which he hears, and his sight with which he sees,

2:16

and his hand with which he strikes, and his foot with which he walks.'

2:19

We are left with the question of the meaning of these phrases: "I am his hearing, his sight, his hand, and his foot."

2:25

The scholars say it entails three things.

2:28

First, that these faculties are protected—

2:34

protected, meaning they are preserved from deficiency and harm,

2:40

and this is indicated by Hadiths, as we have previously seen.

2:43

Second, that they are blessed,

2:49

meaning that the person is blessed in their sight.

2:54

So he does not look at what is forbidden.

2:56

And Allah ﷻ, when He loves a servant, He protects him.

2:59

Whoever seeks Allah's love through voluntary deeds, Allah blesses his limbs so that...

3:04

...he does not look, strike, or hear anything forbidden,

3:08

nor does he walk to what is forbidden, nor does he steal,

3:11

nor does he do other such things, as Allah ﷻ turns his heart away from them.

3:17

The third matter is that Allah ﷻ blesses them in this world,

3:20

making them blessed in this world, and this only occurs with the most perfect of the awliya,

3:25

for the Prophet ﷺ was blessed; he would place his hand and it would be blessed,

3:31

and it is not permissible to seek blessing (barakah) from any other human besides him ﷺ,

3:36

for he is blessed because he is a Prophet; others may have blessing, but we cannot be certain of it,

3:41

so it is not permissible to seek blessings from anyone's person after the Prophet ﷺ, even Abu Bakr (RA) or Umar (RA),

3:47

Indeed, blessing is only in his physical essence, ﷺ, and not in anyone else.

3:51

Yes, of course, these three.

3:54

And this hadith, in general, Al-Shawkani explained it in an entire volume,

4:00

and it is one of the most extensive explanations of this hadith, may Allah have mercy on him. Yes.
